It's T-minus 2 hours until the WNBA Draft...And I just decided to release the official The Sports Court first ever WNBA Mock Draft! Lets get this party rolling and that will all start off with by doing the number one pick in the draft which is owned by no other than my hometown team, the New York Liberty! #1- New York Liberty - Sabrina IonescuI mean, come on now! Do I even have to explain myself. One of the best players (male or female) to step on a college basketball and you don't have her going number 1! That just means you're crazy! Ionescu has the most hype surronding any WNBA player I have seen in years, and she is certainly a pro-level talent that I cannot wait to watch in the pros. 17.5 points per game, 8.6 rebounds and 9.1 assists does not lie. If she wants to be a star not just on the court but off of it, New York is the perfect place to go. A true leader and one of the greatest college basketball players I've ever seen, Sabrina Ionescu is the inagural #1 pick in the first ever The Sports Court WNBA Mock Draft! #2- Dallas Wings - Satou SaballyTwo Oregon players go back to back! Great job to that Oregon Ducks Athletic Department for producing two of the best college basketball players in a while. A powerful forward, her and Arike Ogunbowale (yes, she hit that miraculous game-winning shot for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish a few years back against both UConn and Missipi State) will be a duo that you don't want to play against. Very versatile, she can also play center. A great pickup for the Wings here at the two spot. #3- Indiana Fever - Lauren CoxNow, it would be very interesting to see how these 2 and 3 spots actually end up working out with Sabally being a foreigner from Germany and Lauren Cox being the hometown kid raised in North Texas and playing college ball at Baylor University. Another versatile player, Cox can player both center and forward and she's also very good out on the perimeter and driving into the hoop, getting easy baskets at times that actually aren't quite easy. Also, Cox is the best defender in the draft. She will certainly make an immediate impact and tremendously help out the struggling Fever. #4- Atlanta Dream - Chennedy CarterThe next best player in the draft is what most people would say. However, I wouldn't say that. I would say she's the best. Okay, okay, maybe I am getting a little overboard but average 20+ points per game in three straight seasons is big time. A big time player to a big time city for a big time team. The Atlanta Dream will be dreaming nicely tonight because they will get a steal in the most creative offensive player I've seen in years, Chennedy Carter. #5- Dallas Wings - Tyasha HarrisThe Wings need another point guard. Tyasha Harris the best one avaliable, it's simple as that. Tyasha Harris is a leader, another big plus for the Wings and they will surely be happy to have her join the squad. #6- Minnesota Lynx - Crystal DangerfieldThis took me a while to make up my mind on. Take the best overall prospect left or get what you need? I say get what you need in Crystal Dangerfield and that's the direction I see the Lynx going in. #7- Dallas Wings - Bella AlaireThe Wings are rich in first-round picks this year and Bella Alaire may just go number six to the Minnesota Lynx. Aire is great from the three-point line and can shoot like Stephen Curry. She's also very smart, going to Princeton University #8- Chicago Sky - Beatrice MompremierShe's got one of the coolest names around and she's also got a spot on the Chicago Sky, a not so cool name. Anyways, Mompremier is a monster standing at 6'4 and she will be a force to be reckoned with on the professional level on a very solid Chicago Sky #9- New York Liberty- Ruthy HebardAfter taking the best Oregon Ducks basketball player ever why not take her teammate in Ruthy Hebard who will fill a huge hole in the Liberty squad after the Dina Charles move. A great pickup for the Liberty. #10- Phoenix Mercury - Megan WalkerThe Mercury need some more talent. A spark-plug. That is exactly what they're going to get in the UConn shooting forward, Megan Walker. Walker is very talented, a truly elite shooter that is great from the wing. An amazing fusion of youth and the Mercury will be very happy to get Megan Walker. #11- Seattle Storm - Mikiah Herbert HarriganThe big-tall-powerful (power) forward in Mikiah Herbert Harrigan is a baller. Truly an insane player that's fun to watch and will be great to have on the roster to ease Brianna Stewart back into her starting role after suffering a torn achilles. #12- New York Liberty - Kiah GillespieYou don't really come across a player like Kiah Gillespie to often. With over twenty double-doubles , Gillespie is a really dynamic player. She can score, rebound, assist, and defend very well. She was top 10 in ACC play in scoring, rebounding, field-goal percentage, and defensive rebounds. Kiah Gillespie is a steal at the number 12 spot. Chris DaileyFounder, The Sports Court
