Five NFL coaches on the hot seat

Throughout the course of this NFL season, some coaches have shown why the deserve to stay and to lead their franchise into the next season, while others did the opposite. I'll be looking at five NFL coaches that haven't enjoyed the success they envisioned to have, therefore putting them on the hot seat.

#1- Freddie Kitchens

Picture
Kitchens has lost the locker room for the Browns. He has a star studded roster, featuring Jarvis Landry, Odell Beckham jr, Baker Mayfield, David Njoku, NIck Chubb, and Myles Garrett, all players capable of being some of the best in the NFL at their respective positions. In the Browns most recent game, a loss to the Cardinals, several players including Jarvis Landry yelled’ Come get me!” as a cry for help. Cleveland is the only team in the 2010 decade to not have a winning season, highlighted by their 0-16 campaign in 2017.
Kitchens has made headlines you don’t want the person leading your franchise to make. The most memorable one is when Kitchens wore a shirt labeled, “They started it” referencing the Myles Garrett-Mason Rudolph fight. He then claimed his daughter told him to wear it.
Whenever a team stops play for the coach, it’s a big red flag. Kitchens needs to go if the Browns want to keep their team, and as it stands right now it looks as if everybody is going to be leaving the Browns, players and coaches.

#2- Matt Patricia

Picture
Matt Patricia is a defensive coach. However, the Lions defensive efficiency is near the bottom of the league. Their defense is an absolute mess. Darius Slay has been playing great, but one man cannot do it all for a Lions defense who are allowing 401.9 yards a game and 288.6 passing yards per game (both rank 31st among the NFL) and 26.64 points per game which ranks 26th in the NFL. For a defensive minded coach who helped shape the dynasty of the New England Patriots, Patricia sure isn’t helping the Lions case to be a legit playoff contender.
The Lions owner, Martha Ford, has spoken about recent criticism of Patricia, and it still seems unclear whether or not Patricia is going to be the man in charge of the Lions heading into the 2020/2021 NFL season.

#3- Adam Gase

Picture
Adam Gase hadn’t been very productive anywheres he has been. He was the head coach of the Dolphins from 2016-2018 before taking the Jets job. Ever since he has left Miami, players such as Ryan Tanehill, DeVante Parker, Kenyan Drake, Danny Amendola, and Mike Gesicki have all taken a step up since Gase left them.
On the flip side, players such as Le'veon Bell, Robby Anderson, and Sam Darnold have all taken a step down this year. Look at Bell for instance, he’s consistently been one of the best running backs in the league (when he’s playing) however, he only has three touchdowns this year and hasn’t carried for over 100 yards in any game this year. Gase has shown he’s not able to utilize his talent effectively in his two stints as an NFL head coach, and if he doesn’t turn things around quickly,

#4- Jason Garrett

Picture
Garrett has lost control of the Cowboys locker room. He has lost the managents trust. All the evidence is on the table, and it shows that Garrett is going to get fired.
The Cowboys are currently in a dog fight with the Eagles for the NFC East playoff spot, with both teams standing at 7-7, however the Cowboys have not been playing like a playoff team. It has been stated by several players that they want Garrett out, and it’s being shown on the field. The players have stopped playing for their head coach, and thier is nothing Dallas can do about this except to fire Garrett. He has had since 2011 to build the Cowboys into a Super Bowl contender, however he has yet to do that.
The Cowboys have the talent, but it doesn’t matter how great the talent is when they don't have a healthy relationship with their coach. It is time for the Cowboys and Garrett to move on, unless Dallas wins the Super Bowl, but that’s a long shot.

#5- Pat Shurmur

Picture
Pat Shurmur has been on the hot seat for quite some time now. There are now speculations that Matt Rhule, the head coach of Baylor University is linked to the Giants. Rhule, a New York native, certainly has been around. He was Tom Coughlin’s assistant offensive line coach in 2012, and was rumoured with the Jets job until Adam Gase was hired.
Rhule has stated on Adam Shefter’s podcast that he would love to be an NFL coach, specifically for the Giants. Rhule states, “It would have to be one of those idyllic situations where you feel hey, I can not just go here and win. I can win at a high level for a sustained amount of time.”
Going back to Shurmur. His play calling has been very questionable in his two years in New York, as well as mismanaging the play clock several times. Shurmur has not shown he’s a winner, while Rhule has shown that he is at both Baylor and Temple, teams he took to an elite level. The Mara family has some thinking to do, and it looks very likely that Shurmur will see his way out of New York very soon.
